4.0 out of 5 stars Moto SBV6220 DOCSIS 3 Data/VoIP Modem Review, January 8, 2011
This review is from: Motorola SBV6220 Surfboard Digital Voice Modem DOCSIS 3.0 SBV-6220 (Electronics)
Not to nitpick on Larry's "review", but that was more of a personal venting directed towards Comcast for *their* lack of supporting this device. The device itself is not at fault, and should not warrant 1 star. (note: Try and keep reviews a little more focused on the subject matter at hand, and don't let influence beyond the manufactures control affect your opinion). I personally give this unit a 4 out of 5 stars, as it has an extremely high throughput, rarely bogs down as my old modem did, and has VoIP capability's...all at a great price point.

I nixed a star for the lack an included battery to support phone conversations in a power outage. I alleviated this issue by plugging the modem, and my phone both into an old UPS I had laying around. In a power outage all normal wireless home phones would die. Even if the modem worked, there's nothing to power the phone itself. My current setup keeps the modem and phone powered and online for 12+ hours after a power outage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comcast (Infinity) issues., April 4, 2012
This review is from: Motorola SBV6220 Surfboard Digital Voice Modem DOCSIS 3.0 SBV-6220 (Electronics)
I check periodically for a docsis 3.0 modem with telephony that'll work with Comcast / Infinity bundled services. I'm hoping they'll approve the Motorola SBV6220 soon. Never had a problem with Moto products.

I've used an Arris tm502g (rented) since I started. After upgrading my internet speed to beyond what the 502 could carry, I decided to buy a docis 3.0 telephony modem. However, as most of you know, there's nothing out there yet that's Comcast approved. I contacted Comcast and they gave me a Ubee 3.0 modem, splitter, and cable to connect it between the cable and the Arris 502. I still pay only one rental fee (no added charge) and have a modem that can handle their "Blast Plus" internet speeds plus unchanged telephone service. It's not what we all want but it does the job with no problems. I'll continue to use it until I find a docsis 3.0 telephony modem that's Comcast compatible and approved. I apologize to all of you who expect a review of your researched... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars poor description of product, April 27, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Motorola SBV6220 Surfboard Digital Voice Modem DOCSIS 3.0 SBV-6220 (Electronics)
I purchased this product for our cable tv/internet/phone. The description needs to state that cable companies will not accept the use of a personal modem device with the telephone jack. They will only accept the internet only personal modems. The technician I spoke with said because the phone lines are through the phone company, they cannot authorize personal telephone modems. I am not complaining about the device itself (never got to see if it worked because they would not authorize its use), just the representation of the device to the consumer. Call your cable company first before you purchase this modem to insure that they will accept the use of it. Charter does not.
